Kaos has arrived on Netflix, with it both delivering on the drama and singlehandedly reviving our love of Greek mythology. A dark comedy unwinding the prophecy that binds Zeus (Jeff Goldblum) and three mortals, the series brings to life the stories of The Gods in the most delightfully sharp, witty way.
Along with Mount Olympus and the Underworld, the backdrop for the series is established as Krete – a modern day take on Greece's Crete, though we can in fact confirm that filming did not take place in the country.
So where was Kaos filmed? Here's everything to know about the Netflix show's filming locations.
Where was Kaos filmed?
Much of Kaos was filmed during 2022 in the Andalusia region of Spain, particularly around Costa del Sol. As the name suggests, Costa del Sol is beloved for its sunny climes, with the region averaging 300 days of sunshine a year, making it an ideal spot for near guaranteed decent weather when filming.
Specific filming locations for some of the stunning panoramic shots in the series include tourist hub Marbella as well as Cádiz, Seville, Los Montes and Velez.
For example, the square where we see Orpehus' performance on Olympia Day was filmed in Seville's Plaza de España, a landmark originally built for the 1929 Ibero-American Exposition.
Meanwhile, the beach scene with Orpheus and Dionysus in the first episode was filmed at Santa María del Mar beach in Cádiz.
Malaga (Heraklion in the show) also provided a backdrop for Kaos, specifically Calle Parras which the production team transformed by painting murals of Poseidon and other scenes from Greek mythology onto, with filming here taking place post-pandemic in July 2021.
But before you start planning a trip to visit the site to see the graffiti for yourself, it's worth noting that the walls were restored to their former glory promptly following filming, so sadly you won't see any remnants of Kaos should you visit.
Street sequences in Malaga were also done in the Pablo Ruiz Picasso promenade while the El Ingenio shopping centre in Vélez-Málaga is the setting for the supermarket scenes.
According to local media, many of the traffic scenes (including the part where Orpheus gets out to sign that guy's head) were shot in the palm tree lined Alameda de Colón, while chases took place in La Palmilla and Lagunillas.
Including Don’t Fear The Reaper.

Much of Almería's beautiful coastline and historical buildings make an appearance in Kaos, with the natural park Cabo de Gata providing a stunning backdrop for many of the show's coastal shots.
Likewise, the beach Playa de Torre Garcia also appears in the series, while the church of Ermita de Torregarcía makes the perfect setting for the Chapel of Hera on the show.
The Cave was filmed at what was previously the Alfaro restaurant, a setting near a service station in Tabernas, with the location having also been featured in Black Mirror season 4.
Much of the second half of filming reportedly took place in Madrid where several shots for Zeus and Hera's mansion were captured at the suitably luxe Madrid property Villalís Palace. Having been the setting for several other productions, the property boasts nine bedrooms and fourteen bathrooms.
Meanwhile, Valencia also provided a backdrop for scenes in the show. Namely, the Sant Miquel dels Reis monastery was used as Hera's temple, with the facade being added in later using CGI.
The Cheste Educational Complex in Valencia was also used for the Underworld locations, with its Brutalist architecture offering the perfect setting for the black and white scenes.
As per Atlas of Wonders, much of the filming for Zeus and Hera's Mount Olympus mansion also took place in Italy.
Specifically, the beautifully manicured garden shots and the central Neptune Fountain viewers see were filmed in the idyllic Villa d'Este in Tivola near Rome. A Renaissance villa originally designed in the 16th century, the villa is unsurprisingly a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Meanwhile, the stunning staircase that features in the series is that of the Royal Palace of Caserta in southern Italy.
Though a majority of Kaos' filming locations were in Spain, parts of the shooting and reshooting were also carried out in parts of the UK.
