A little bit about National Trust
As Europe's largest conservation charity, the National Trust cares for more than 500 of the historic houses, castles, parks, and gardens in England, Wales, and Northern Ireland. Plus, they're also responsible for more than 780 miles of coastline, and over 250,000 hectares of land. With a National Trust membership, you'll be supporting the charity's essential conservation work — while also granting yourself (or a lucky loved one) free entry to their sites. An access-all pass to some of the most treasured and interesting venues around: what’s not to love?
Where we'd visit with a discounted National Trust membership:
Cliveden, Oxfordshire
With eighty acres to explore, the grounds at Cliveden contain a series of different stunning gardens, Lord Astor's impressie sculpture collection, and the impressive Cliveden Maze. Be sure to check-out the famous far-reaching views across Buckinghamshire, and also wander through the hundreds of acres of extensive woodlands. Our top tip? Take a stroll down to the famous Cliveden Reach; one of the prettiest riverside spots, it's the perfect place for a picnic.
Chartwell, Kent
Bought by Winston and Clementine Churchil in 1922, Chartwell was the famous Prime Minister's family home for forty years. Filled with pictures, books, and personal memories, history buffs will love exploring the house's many rooms — while the stunning hillside gardens boast beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. Feast your eyes on the meticulously well-maintained formal rose garden and walled kitchen garden, meander around the lakes created by Churchill himself, and stroll through the looped trails in the surrounding woodland.
