Kim Kardashian is in her red hair era and it's fire (even if it's not real)

Wig or not, this colour is so cool for autumn.

It is sincerely embarrassing how many times Kim Kardashian has tricked me into thinking she'd dyed her hair when she was, in fact, wearing a wig. In my defence, she has made some major hair changes, but for the most part, when her colour changes dramatically overnight, there's a very good chance that her natural hair is hidden under what we're seeing. And I'm all but completely sure that that's the case with the entrepreneur's latest shade switch-up, but I wish it was a long-term look because it's so good.

Kim posted a selfie video to her Instagram Stories late on Wednesday night, tagging her beauty brand, SKKN, which suggests she might be shooting a campaign for an as-yet-unannounced new product launch. And to be honest, it's hard to tell what the product could be because she put a pretty dramatic skin-blurring, nose-pinching, lip-plumping filter on the clip. But the filter isn't responsible for the gorgeous hair colour she's sporting. (Trust me, I tried it on myself.)

In the video, Kim flips and smooths her hair as she admires it in her front-facing camera. And admire it she should. I'd have to call the colour “red velvet”; which started making a comeback last autumn. The deep yet cool shade of red is styled super-straight and parted in the middle with a prominent shadow root.

Shortly after posting this video, Kim Kardashian posted a mirror selfie at Sev Lasher Aesthetics, a laser hair removal chain, and it looks like she already did another kind of hair removal: taking off the red wig. Yep, she's already back to dark brown. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't use her short-lived shade as inspiration for a fun new autumn look for yourself. For more autumn hair inspo, we've rounded up the shades predicted to be big here.
