Move over, black. Brown is currently all over our feeds as the trending hue for autumn and Dua Lipa just demonstrated how to wear it now.
Stepping out for Friday date night at Chiltern Firehouse with boyfriend Callum Turner, the singer was spotted in the most luxurious brown midi dress with an asymmetric neckline. Most notably, she paired the sultry dress with boxy black clutch and minimalist sandals, putting to rest theories that black and brown don't mix.
It's easy to reach for the inky hues as temperatures drop and go back to the “safe” colour choice of autumn/winter, but what we – and the internet – love about the rich brown tones is how expensive it could make an outfit look. Thanks to its “in-between" undertones of brick red and aubergine, it's a hue that can go with warm and cool tones alike, making it as versatile as black. We wouldn't be surprised to see it worn with punchy orange or sweet pastel pinks for the colour-block trend this autumn. It will also pair well with all the burgundy bags we're seeing take over street style and social media at the moment.
Things are about to get very nostalgic.
But what we love about Dua Lipa's look is how she made the sumptuous colour work for this awkward, trans-seasonal period, wearing a brown dress in a wintery fabrication, but in a midi length with open-toe sandals. The look, while simple, screams *expensive* – and we can't wait to recreate it.
