I’m not going to lie. When I heard there was yet another suction vibrator to hit the market, I cringed. Again? Are we still doing this? But because I knew that this particular clitoral stimulator that uses pressure-wave technology was coming from Dame Products, my second thought after “No, not again!” was “Well, it’s Dame, so it’s got to be good.”
I’ve always been rather iffy when it comes to suction vibrators – a clit vibrator designed to simulate oral sex, ICYMI. After trying one several years ago when the iconic Womanizer first launched, I was into it. It was different. It hadn’t been done before, and it was a great alternative to the vibration sensation to which I had become so accustomed. But, as with most things, the novelty wore off. And as more brands jumped on the suction-vibrator bandwagon and I watched samples of these pile up in my bedroom, I became disenchanted. Been there; done that; next, please.
So when Dame’s Aer came my way, I was equal parts excited and skeptical. Could one of my favourite brands take the suction toy to a whole new level, or would it be just like every other suction vibrator that cuddled up against my clitoris, did its thing, and left me either moderately satisfied or simply, for lack of a better word, bored?
Well, my friends, the results are in: Dame’s Aer not only delivered but exceeded my expectations so much so that after I came, I just laid there in bed for at least 20 minutes, in total silence, my mind void of any thoughts, as my body relished in the clit orgasm it had just experienced.
With other suction toys that are made to mimic the feeling of oral sex, the clitoral fit was never quite right for me. Some of these sex toys even came with different-size heads so as to fit a range of clitorises, but in my experience (and that of some of my friends), I never found the proverbial glass slipper. If one is going to create a suction toy, it’s important to have a toy that’s flexible enough to stimulate all clitorises, no matter size or shape, and Aer does just that. Why? Because Dame designed the head of Aer to be oval instead of round, therefore making it large enough to fit a whole range of clitoris sizes. There’s no fumbling to get it in the right spot, because its shape naturally finds its way there.
“When we dream about innovation, we always look to our Dame Labs community to help guide those thoughts, and we could tell they were ready for a new adventure — no joke, there were explicit questions about suction toys in so many of our survey responses,” says Alex Fine, CEO and cofounder of Dame Products. “We always seek to provide pleasure for vulva-havers, and for people of all sexualities and those with varied familiarity with sex toys.”
Fine and the team at Dame Products understand that pleasure comes in many different forms and that how pleasure is experienced is unique to each individual. While there may be a sex toy out there for everyone, there certainly isn’t only one sex toy that works for everyone. This is something that Dame has always put in the forefront of their research and designs, ever since they launched Eva in 2014 — a hands-free, strap-free couples toy that can be worn to stimulate the clitoris during intercourse or any other type of couple (or solo!) play.
I have been a fan of Dame Products from the beginning. When I tried Pom after its launch a few years ago, I actually whispered to it after my orgasm, “I love you,” and I’m not the type of person who throws around the word love very easily. If I say it, I mean it. I love Aer. I love the ergonomic handle that keeps me from getting a cramp in my hand, if I want to go for a couple rounds. I love that it’s waterproof, making showers and bubble baths a boatload of extra fun. I love the five patterns and five intensities — especially as someone whose clitoris prefers high intensities over lower intensities, I found the whole experience mind-blowing. (Perhaps not the most creative adjective, but when a product leaves you speechless, sometimes you can only come up with mind-blowing.) This is the stuff of real live sexual fantasies.
“Pleasure can come in many different forms, so it makes sense for us to continue to vary our approach,” says Fine. “The disparity is sexual satisfaction for people with vulvas has always been our North Star, and the creation of Aer allows us to provide yet another tool to help close the pleasure gap.”
And that’s exactly what Dame has done once again: taken us even further to closing that pleasure gap. Hell, with Aer, Dame just might have finally closed it for good.
